Do you offer group classes?
No, all my training is one client and one dog at a time.
Can we do the training at my home?
It depends on the issue you are looking to work on. For some behaviors, such as house training or new puppy training we can meet at your home. For issues such as general obedience, dog to dog reactivity, dog to human reactivity, excess jumping, etc, it would be best to meet away from your home. I also offer online training sessions using Zoom
But my dog only exhibits the unwanted behavior at home?
When training we want to start working where it is easiest to teach the dog the new behavior and gradually work up to the environment where it is most difficult, rather than starting where the behavior is at its worst. For example, we don't try to teach dogs recall for the first time when they are chasing a squirrel, we teach them in a setting with no distractions and gradually work up to settings with higher levels of distractions. We also want to have the best teaching environment to allow you as the handler to focus and learn the techniques. For these reasons it is usually best to hold the first session away from your home.
Do you train my dog?
I train the owner and give you the tools so that you can train your dog. Dog training is about the relationship and communication between you and your dog and is a daily process so it is important that you learn the needed skills so you can reinforce your dogs behavior every day.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the dog, the owner and the behavior you are looking to change. Many people find that they learn enough in the first session to solve the issue.
How long until my dog's behavior is changed?
Again this depends on the dog and the behavior. Some behaviors can be changed very quickly, other behaviors, such as reactivity, may take longer to address. The only way to know is to put in the time and see how your dog progresses, but in most cases you will start seeing progress very quickly.
Do you book multiple sessions in advance?
No. I typically book one session at a time so that you have time to practice the techniques you have learned and work at a pace that is comfortable for you, however I am always available when you are ready to book subsequent sessions, and offer no-cost support in between training sessions.
Can other family members attend the training session?
Yes, it would be best if anyone who will be handling the dog participates in the training, however that being said there is usually a significant amount of training theory involved that will be fairly dry and boring for children. For this reason I would suggest that the training session be adults only, and once you are trained you can teach your children the same techniques.
